Buys/Listen to these:

1)

I've been looking forward to buying this album for the past 2 months...which is when I first heard of this Brooklyn based band. They carry a great new wave punk sound, while also conjuring the soul of Brian Wilson.
Check out there myspace, here, and listen to their cover of Radiohead's "Exit Music (For a Film)", here.

2)

I've listened to the band Eastmountainsouth since they released their one and only album back in 2003. Unfortunately, this dynamite duo called it quites a few years after. Enter the solo career of Peter Bradley Adams. I was re-introduced to this album recently, and let's just say 1 or all of the songs make an appearance on my iTunes ever hour or so. Just plain solid, good.

Check out his music here.

3)

You may recognize the lovely lady above as actress Zooey Deschanel (you know, the girl from Elf, Winter Passing, Almost Famous, etc. . The dude who is along side her is the musician M. Ward, you may have heard of him. Anyway, they're releasing an album together in March...it's going to be great.

You can download one of their live sessions here.

Cheers Jon for letting Josh and I shoot you in the face.

They were good.

This is my friend Jarrett. He and I have a long standing tradition of trying to get each other the coolest and/or the weirdest Christmas presents we can think of.

Example:

This year I gave Jarrett a slingshot. Specifically, this slingshot:

This sucker has a 185 yard range and you can attach a mini-mag light to the bottom so you can shoot at night! I was pretty proud of this one.

I've been eagerly awaiting my present, which just came in the mail today! I didn't know why it took so long to get to me, until I started opening it...

Anyway, I decided to document this grand event:

Here's me all excited:

Bangkok!!!

What the...

IT'S A FREAKN ATLAS MOTH!!!!

Jarrett, you truly have outdone yourself.

Peace. - Caleb

P.S. Thanks to Josh Hausen for helping me waste time while we should have been working.

I love the sounds of New York.

Peace. - Caleb

So, Bryan pointed out that I have made 2 promises on this blog which have yet to be fulfilled: 1) Post images from Christmas with my family, and 2) Post images from NY.

Here's my attempt to fulfill one of those:

Christmas time at the Chancey's means LOTS of kids. I have 14 nieces and nephews (1 of which is on the way). Here's a picture of most of them:

(I don't know where Belle and Elizabeth were during this picture...)

The oldest of my sister's kids, Jillian, read the christmas story, while the others acted it out.

Here's Thomas showing the proper way a wise man worship's Baby Jesus (and consequently committing idolatry).

All the girls received baby beds. The little one used to be my sister's when she was little. She passed it on to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth liked it.

All the other kids also received these really soft stuffed animals, which have blankets inside of them.

My brother, Josh, also liked the blankets.

Josh also found an old children's halloween costume (probably 20+ yrs old), and decided he would put it on.

Another major part of my family getting together is playing Dominoes.

BEWARE of playing Papa. If you lose, you will suffer the ridicule of an old man's laugh.

For a while now (for reasons I can't really explain) I've had a few pictures on my desktop that have two things in common: 1) they all have to do with movies/TV and 2) they all contain a side profile.

Here they are:

After sharing this with my friend Josh over iChat, he shared with me that he's found a common thread in, pretty much, ALL Tom Cruise movies.

Proof Showing Here:

Just thought I would share.

While reading this entry, listen to this:

"The Deacon", Count Basie

"The music was a slow swell of acoustic rhythms and tenor vocals, mixed with the off beat jive of an anchored bass and tentative tapping of a corner-room snare. Oh, the sound of the night. Oh, the waiting of the morning. This is my favorite way to bring in tomorrow. Be it Count Basie's Jazz Orchestra, Charles Mingus' evolutionary scores, or a coffee house beat poet; as long as the song is played when the clock hits its peak, my day has begun properly. Welcoming the day with a song, a sip of coffee, a round of applause.

Many view the hours of 12-6am as the opening act for tomorrow, the independent artist that no one bothers to listen to and wasn't even on the bill. Many don't even consider it a part of tomorrow, but only the fat kid of yesterday who arrives too late for anyone to notice. Everyone waits for the sunrise. I'll take the fat kid.

His trumpet in his chubby, sweating, hands he mounts the ancient stage, raises the instrument to his pink plump lip, and blows a wind of sound. Through his breath, life, desire, he speaks words that make us raise long before the sun's first rays are seen. And the bar becomes his sheet music, and we become his notes."

Yearly goals.

A lot of people I know have posted a list of yearly goals on their blogs/websites. I was feeling really talkative tonight, so I recorded mine.

Four things to bare in mind:
1) None of these goals were written down beforehand, therefore it is stream of consciousness
2) The track is not edited at all
3) It is 14 min 2 sec long
4) It's not really worth listening to unless you're bored or you really care

HERE we go.
